a cute story

Before moving to Nevada, we lived in the Palouse. Our address was technically Colfax (no, not CA), but we actually lived out nine miles, two miles from our nearest neighbor. Heh...when we moved here, we had to teach the kids 'town voices'...anyway. There is a lot of clay content in the soil of the Palouse, as my Dad says, when it rains "it's slicker'n snot on a doorknob". You don't want to be caught in a tractor or Cat when it rains. One spring, Fred and Ford were out playing, they would've been 7 and 5 at the time. All of a sudden, we realized that they were both hollering. Actually, since that wasn't unusual, I guess I should say that it was a prolonged chorus. I was sent out to see what was going on. I discovered two little boys in the field just above our house....stuck. Their boots were submerged in mud up to their ankles. They couldn't move. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I was a very unsympathetic sister, and suggested they could stay there for a while, which of course wasn't taken to very kindly. So I took a plastic sled (I wasn't about to get stuck!), and ended up picking them up out of their boots because I just wasn't strong enough to get them out with the boots. I have pictures in a box somewhere....
That's not the kind of mud I like to walk in barefoot....
I love Firefox. Mama asked me about it after my poll, and the thing I like best about it is the fact that when it can't connect, it doesn't send you to a "cannot find server" kind of page, it just pops up with a little note telling you it can't connect, and you don't lose whatever info you had entered on that page. Yes indeed.
The kids got Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today...I'm looking forward to seeing it again. :)
