Because five posts just aren't enough for one day.

Okay, I was quite surprised to find the majority of folks (that replied anyway) agree with me on the no-shoes policy for piano playing. So I'll make it easy for those who won't reply. ;)

[Poll #604041]

P.S. How cool is a green poll?!

I play the flute. I don't think it matters much if I have my shoes on or off.

And I wish my background wasn't green so I could have taken your poll.

Your background looks blue..?

[identity profile] mrs617.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what Jessica said...looks blue to me!

And you can always take the poll from here...

I love the flute.

Yes, of course. I was just kiddin' ya. :)

Ch! Maybe I should go to bed now. *feels silly*

No need to feel silly. :) It's hard to read between the lines online. And I'm not feeling so good, so maybe had I put some winks and smilies in there it would have been better.

Cool green poll!

My answer is other, because it really depends on the shoes. Once I was playing something at church and I had to remove my shoe to do it right, but then the entire time I was distracted by the fact that I was wearing one shoe and not the other. So the new rule is: both shoes or no shoes. But I would say that having a shoe sometimes helps, as long as it doesn't hinder. :) That's very clear, isn't it?

[identity profile] mrs617.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
*grin* Well, I understood it.

[identity profile] cafemusique.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can't do one shoe on...it only happens if I'm in an extreme hurry. (Like I might have done it once when I was at the music festival...I'd forgotten to take my shoes off, and the singer I was playing for tends to get nervous...I had to pull off the pedal-foot shoe, but I couldn't take the time for the other, because I didn't want her to get more nervous while she waited. (And that pair of shoes wouldn't just slip off.)

Both or none is the rule...and usually both is a last resort.

tmi?

disclaimer: My shoeless answer applies only when the temperature is 70 degrees or above! If the temp falls below 70, then I would prefer to play in my wigwam socks if at all possible, unless I am giving an outdoor performance and it's either raining or snowing with mud puddles or loose gravel or it's in a park where lots of people walk their dogs and~~~

It really depends what kind of shoe. I often do play the piano without shoes on at home, and that's comfortable. Some shoes are a little hard to wear while using the pedal, like my boots and some sandals that tend to slip off or feel precarious, but others like sneakers are fine.
