Abusing responsibility
Jul. 29th, 2006 03:32 pmThe street we live on (it's about 3/4 of a mile loop) is a 20 mph zone. Actually, that's the best speed for it because it's a winding street for the most part. It's also nice because there are quite a few families with young children on our street.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of young drivers in the neighbourhood who don't like to go 20 mph. They have been reported and complained about, and only a couple of times in the four years we've lived here have they set a speed trap and stopped a couple people.
Guess what? Instead of enforcing the law to protect the innocent? You guessed it, they increased the speed limit. Granted, it's only to 25 mph, but in my opinion (and I just tried it this afternoon), that five miles an hour is going just a hair past the safe speed for our street. But hey, it's easier to change two signs than to do your job and make sure that people drive safely, isn't it?
